Whats and What nots For Different Body Types

We have rules in fashion and style, but literally, everything and anything goes. My rule is, if it makes me feel beautiful, then it is good. However, we want to bring out our inner goddesses, look like a rock star or a celebrity. The first step to achieving this is; determining your body type and embracing it. When I say body type, I am not talking about height or weight, but shape. A slim lady can have the same body type with a fat lady, just as a shorter woman can have same body type as her taller counterpart. Shape makes the difference, the moment you know your body shape, you can begin to dress, not to look thin, but to accentuate the finer points of your body and look your very best.

The types of body types include:

Pear body shape

Celebrities with this body type include Kim Kardashian and Eva Mendes. This body type has a wider lower body than the upper body, your bottom is round and your waist is well defined. You should wear clothes with sweetheart and plunging necklines, this accentuates your shoulders and waist which are your best features.

Wear strapless clothes and statement necklaces to draw attention upward. If you have got great legs, wear shorter clothes, with sleeves, so that you can show off your legs, and at the same time, not flash too much skin. Wear high waist styles to create the illusion of a waist. Shape wears are a must for this body type, it gives a great silhouette.

Rectangular body shape

Rectangular shaped celebrities include Cameron Diaz and Kate Hudson. If you have this body type, your hips, waist and shoulders have similar wideness. Your arms and legs are your best features. Your goal in dressing is to create the curves that you don’t have. Wear sweetheart necklines, it adds some curves.

natalie-rectangle

Also wear pencil skirts with side slits to show off your great legs. Long jackets create a lean look, so invest in them. Tops with ruffles, and collar gives you the appearance of a fuller cleavage, do not forget to buy good bra to make the little you have, look good and full.

 Apple body type

Queen Latifah, Eva Longoria and some other celebrities have this body shape. Most of the weight is above the hips, which are narrow. Your legs are your best features and your goal is to elongate the torso and show off your great legs. With this body shape, it is important to elongate your figure with V-necks, empire waistlines and A-line dresses.

To draw attention from your mid section, wear layered clothes and structured jackets with a dress. Belts should be worn at the smallest part of your waist. Show off your legs with shorter dresses, to draw attention away from your mid section.

The Hourglass Shape

Every woman aspires to this body type because, it is curvier. Celebrities with this body type include Beyonce and Scarlett Johansson. Your shoulders and hips are similar in proportion, which sets off a tiny waist. Your assets are your curves.

beyonce-hourglass

With this body type, it is curves curves curves. Show off your curves with fitted dresses, skinny jeans and thin fabrics. Wear wrap dresses because they show off your curves, and do not baggy clothes or clothes that do not fit, because they hide your curve. Most times, we are always in a rush to makeup our faces for that dinner date or even when rushing to the office in the morning and because of tension, we end up running our looks. Here, follow these 6 simple steps to achieve that flawless looks in 3 minutes.

Items needed:

  1. Moisturizer
  2. Foundation
  3. Powder
  4. Mascara
  5. Lipstick or gloss
  6. Blush

Steps:

1. Cleanse and Moisturize face

Cleanse your face thoroughly and follow up with moisturizer.

2, Dab on foundation

Make sure you chose the correct foundation that suits your skin tone. Focus on your chin, around your eyes, the sides of your nose and other areas that are prone to coloration.

3. Apply Powder

Get the perfect powder for your skin color and apply sparingly. Perfect powder application by using a brush to blend it well with foundation.

While the latter may look intimidating, it will give you a surprisingly natural-looking flush.Dark skinned women can rock metallic eye shadow like no one else.

4. Apply Mascara on your eye lashes.

Black mascaras are usually amazing for everyone but brown mascara won’t be a bad choice if you are very fair. Apply this by sweeping on one coat from root to tip. Do not pump the mascara tube as this lets air into the tube which promotes the growth of bacteria.

5. Apply blush

To apply blush, smile and apply to the apple of each cheek which is the roundest part of your smile sweeping backward towards the ear.

6. Apply Lipstick or lip gloss

Apply any lipstick of your choice depending on your skin color and the occasion. We advise that you use colors with a sheer or gloss finish as this requires less precision.

Easy right? Now you have that ideal look in 3 minutes. Go girl and rock your world!

Pleating is making a comeback, as we saw a lot in 2016 on our runways, and trust me, we will be seeing a lot of pleats in 2017. We love pleats because they make us look slimmer and curvier. Try on a pleated dress with stilettos or block heel sandals, and see how heads will turn when you walk by.

So when next you go shopping for that dinner date with crush, pick a velvet dress in a bright color and see his eyes pop when you walk into the room.

Ladies! Here Are Tips on Styling Your Natural Hair For Wedding

A couple of weeks ago, reports flooded the social media of a bride who had her hair cut off as she proceeded into the church for her wedding.

style-4-wedding

Her offence was that she had added artificial volume to her natural hair, a style which was against the rules of the church.

It is not unusual for many brides to find themselves at a loss over what to do with their hair for church wedding celebrations, especially if the church has strict rules for using artificial hair of any sort. Makeover spoke with two expert hair stylists, Damilola Ogunleye of Shindara Make-over and Oyetola Itunu on treatment, styles and accessories for natural hair for brides.

Their tips on these issues are provided below:

Treatment

The hair should be washed twice before the wedding day. This will help the hair absorb enough treatment that will help to soften it and ease the stress of styling on the D-Day. When washing, use softening shampoo and conditioner. Apply moisturiser or shea butter and blow-dry immediately.

Endeavour to use as many natural products as possible to prevent damage to the hair. Remember you’re working with your natural hair, so avoid experimenting with unproven artificial products. You can also use coconut oil to eliminate dandruff.

On the wedding day, after washing the hair with softening shampoo and conditioner, it should be stretched with hot comb or straightener. Then, apply shea butter to the roots as well as the ends, before styling.

Since the natural hair has the tendency to stray out of place after styling, apply edge control products before styling. This is to keep stray strands in place. After styling, use oil sheen spray for the best results.

Styles

Twist: Mini-twists are the great option for brides because they can be done in advance and will help to reduce the fuss over the hair for the wedding proper. If your natural hair is long, twists can be pinned up as an upward bun.

Low cut: More women are embracing the natural option by going for the big chop. So, if this falls towards your wedding period, simply class up the look by going for a very beautiful veil or use a wreath.

Free locks: Natural hair for many Nigerian women comes in the afro style, and with the right treatment, if left in full bloom, can be a head-turner at your wedding. Simply let the curls free and if they are proving too difficult to manage, pin on one side.

Accessories

There are a variety of accessories to choose from for weddings. Some of them include hair pins, headbands, hair clips, hair flowers, bridal combs, tiaras, veils, hair chains, head wraps, hair jewellery, hair vines, wedding halos, among others.

Ladies! These are 6 Reasons You Should Rock Your Natural Hair

If you have been addicted to the use of hair extensions as a lady, then this may entirely make you change your mind about it.

afro-puff

The present fashion trend in Nigeria has made wearing your natural hair some sort of a ‘taboo’. You are looked at as local, inferior and without any style nor class for wearing your Nigerian didi, patewo, and shuku. This is not surprising because many Nigerians have a knack for anything foreign.

This is why Brazilian hair, Peruvian and Afghanistan hair is very popular among ladies. You see ladies with long hair that is almost sweeping the floor. There is no doubt or argument that they look beautiful but if the trend continues, these indigenous hairstyles will disappear. Of course, you may not care.

1. It is inexpensive

With your natural hair, you don’t need to spend any money on buying human hair which may cost as much as N70,000. In fact, with this recession, the cost of the hair may have risen significantly. At least have mercy on your partner and plait your natural hair. Even if you are paying it from your pocket, it is wise that you save by plaiting your hair.

2. It saves time

You have a function at a hotel in Yaba next day but you are not prepared because your stylist is not around. When she eventually arrives, you spend hours which may run into the night just to plait your hair. The following day, you are groggy and woke up late. Except you drive at 220 kph, you will miss your meeting. Why not just plait your natural hair to save time?

3. You will appear beautiful

The biggest accusation against wearing natural or kinky hair is that it doesn’t make you appear beautiful. This is entirely false. You don’t have to plait your natural hair the way it is done in the pass. You can add swag and you will be shocked by the compliments you will receive from your admirers. Don’t forget to thank us! *wink.*

4. No hair loss or injury

Women use all sorts of chemicals and materials on their hair in the name of plaiting their hairs. Flat-iron, hair dryers, and other countless equipment you use for your hair. Unfortunately for them, what they aren’t aware of is that they will slowly lose their natural hair. Although you can wear your hair anyhow you deem it fit, you should try wearing your natural hair. You will notice the difference.

5. You don’t have to worry when it’s about to rain

When it’s about to rain, you find women desperately looking for their shower cap in their handbag. If you can’t find it, you either buy one or use a nylon (which can be crude) in a bid to cover their hair. All this baggage doesn’t come with wearing your natural hair.

6. You are saving our traditional hair from extinction

Like earlier said, if the dependence on anything foreign continues, everything Nigerian will soon evaporate. You may want to wear your natural hair to save it from extinction. Perhaps, a Nigerian day for natural hair should be declared. A day for no attachment. Just plait your natural hair. You will really feel good about doing something different!

This is the famous dress which was worn by late American actress, Marilyn Monroe, far back in 1962, when she sang “happy birthday Mr President” to John F Kennedy.

The gown has sold for a world-record price at auction, fetching US$4.8m (£3.87m).

According to reports, the sheer, flesh-coloured design, which features more than 2,500 hand-stitched crystals, had a pre-sale estimate of $3m before it went under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles.

It was bought by museum chain Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, surpassing the previous most expensive dress sold at auction – Monroe’s white costume from The Seven Year Itch – which went for $4.6m in 2011.

Edward Meyer, vice-president of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, told the Press Association: “We believe this is the most iconic piece of pop culture that there is.

“In the 20th century I cannot think of one single item that tells the story of the 1960s as well as this dress. It’s a new world record for a dress.”

Meyer said it was likely the dress would go on display at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in Hollywood before moving to different branches around the world.

The custom-made Jean Louis gown was so tight fitting that Monroe was said to have been sewn into it before she performed for Kennedy on 19 May 1962, ahead of his 45th birthday.

The Hollywood star was was found dead less than three months later, aged 36.
