The Gambia is currently embroiled in a political standoff between sitting president, Yahya Jammeh, and president-elect Adama Barrow.

Jammeh has rejected the December 1 2016 presidential election result which saw him defeated, with Barrow emerging as the winner.

Jammeh has ruled The Gambia for 22 years, and earlier this week, the Gambian parliament had his tenure extended by another 90 days.
