Jide: ‘I…I can…explain’ Jide stuttered helplessly ignoring Grace.
Daisy: ‘you can explain what!’ Daisy screamed.
Grace: ‘let me help him!’ Grace said walking towards Daisy. ‘while you went to God knows where, doing God knows what, your man was having a good time with me!’
Daisy: ‘you bit.ch!’ Daisy screamed.
Grace was now standing closer to Daisy.
Grace: ‘that’s not the way to thank the bit.ch that fu.c.ked your husband!’ she spat.
A star studded, unexpected slap from Daisy shocked her.
Daisy: ‘bit.ch! How much do you want for a job well done! Answer me! Do you want this ring…’ Daisy brandished her left hand in the face of The startled Grace who was still clutching her right cheek, ‘…do you want the rights to this house! Do you want that handsome man over there! Do you want the rights to his bed forever! Do you want to bear his wife! Open your slut.ty mouth and answer me!’ Daisy screamed.
Grace didn’t reply. She was still shocked, hadn’t expected the docile Daisy to bark much less bite.
Daisy: ‘…answer me! Do you want all of that!’ Daisy continued: ‘Well guess what? you lost! you can’t even compete with this!…’ she waved across her body. ‘…for all your effort at keeping his bed warm while i take my time, this is what you’ll get!
Another unexpected slap landed on Grace’s face (Gwwwaaaaammmm!!! HOT RED SLAP) .
Much as Grace hadn’t expected another slap, she recovered from her immobility this time around and lurched towards Daisy ready to go for the kill.
But before the women could get down to the fighting proper, Jide was already by their side and pulling Grace away from his wife.
Grace: ‘let me freaking go!’ Grace cried struggling free from his hold.
She felt the sting of the slaps sharper on her skin now and her tears started to pour, mostly because of her inability to rip the hair out of the woman that had stolen everything from her, than of the fact that she was incapable of giving back the slap a million fold. Her heart also bled for the man who was holding her away from touching his precious wife, when she had been the one to throw the first punch! Her heart cut deeply as she struggled like a trap bird trying to bite off a pound of her deserved flesh.
Grace: ‘you happiness snatcher! you’re the bit.ch and wh.or.e! You’re the one who stole what was mine! You’re…’ Grace screamed on.
Daisy: ‘and you’re the loser! The one who will get laid for nothing! You had better get a life! or you’ll die a wretched hag!’ Daisy replied
She didn’t try to go any further, wanted to play it cool and wait for the bit.ch to come near her. Even if she had the power of a lamb, she was going to waste it on this woman that wouldn’t let her find happiness for good!
Grace: ‘you are the loser, you hear me! Loser!’ Grace screamed.
Jide: ‘Grace its enough, please take your leave!’ Jide tried to control the struggling lady.
Grace: ‘am not leaving!’ she cried still struggling.
Daisy: ‘oh yes you are! You are going to take your filthy self out of my home!’ Daisy shouted then left the door to where Jide and Grace had previously sat to search for Grace’s belonging. She found her purse and shoes, snatched them, walked back to the door to flung them out.
Daisy: ‘there! Your belongings! You can take your leave now! Your services are no longer required. I am very fit to service my man!’ (Jide was happy to hear that lol)
She shouted and walked back to stand in the middle of the parlour, fuming and breathing heavily with hands on her hips, as she waited, probably to give Jide his own dose.
The saying that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, could best describe Daisy and Grace, regardless of who was the defaulter.
Grace: ‘you will pay for this!’ Grace shouted.
Jide: ‘Grace please!’ Jide yelled.
Daisy: ‘And you’re already paying, get the hell out’ Daisy screamed back.
Before long, Jide finally led the struggling Grace out of the parlour.
Out in the compound, Grace finally struggled free from his hold, immediately after, she returned his wife’s gesture with two hard biting slap on his face. Feeling a little placated now, she picked up her belongings and walked away without a word or a glance back at him.
Jide knew he deserved it and more, wanted to apologise for all the wrong he’d done, even on behalf of his wife. But he could not say a word, could not help the broken Grace as she picked her steps slowly out of his compound and probably out of their life for good.
Clutching his right cheek, he walked back into the house, his nerves racing high, his feeling ambivalent. Though he was happy that Daisy was finally back but he also dreaded what awaited him inside.
Jide entered the parlour to see Daisy still standing and surprisingly looking calm and composed. He couldn’t read her expression didn’t know what to expect or think, and that scared him more.
Jide: ‘just…let…me…explain’ he stammered as he walked towards her.
Daisy: ‘same old cliche’ Daisy drawled. ‘what do men always want to explain after you’ve caught them with their pants down, hunh?’ she added in an irritated tone.
Jide: ‘I am sorry’ he said and stopped.
Daisy: ‘hmm’ she simply said and walked towards him, stopping when she came to face him. ‘I forgive you’ Daisy shrugged and smiled looking directly into his eyes.
Jide: ‘what?’ Jide’s shocked expression was contagious.
Daisy: ‘yeah, she’s not worth our time, I love you and that’s all that matters’ she said, took a step further and wrapped her hands around his neck. Her heeled shoes propped her up, giving her a height that almost levelled with his.
Jide didn’t understand a thing. Was this a slow way to kill him? He wondered.
Daisy: ‘so…why don’t we finish what you started back in the hallway huh?’ she whispered ‘I’ve been dying for its completion ever since then’ she continued and drew her face closer to his. His breath fanned her lips, and urged her on.
Jide’s hands didn’t leave his sides, he was still grappling with this strange attitude of Daisy, and trying to subdue the feelings that was rising up in him, so he could be ready when she wanted her pound.
Daisy: ‘you don’t want it? Don’t want to rip me apart? Maybe I should give you a bite of the cake…’ she teased softly then brushed her lips lightly against his, before delving deeper.
Jide’s hands gradually and ever so slowly slide up her back now.
Minutes later, Daisy broke the kiss, her face an inch away from his, she smiled.
Daisy: ‘we’ll talk after this’ Daisy cut in impatiently, her eyes misty with desire. ‘what’s it gonna be?’ she whispered.
Jide sighed and pulled her closer, he didn’t need to reply, didn’t have any hesitation or question to ask, just his urgent kiss on her lips to drown every of her teasing word. He could take it on from here.
He was so going to continue from where he stopped and would get it done to the very end. Did he so love this unpredictable wife of his?
Daisy didn’t stop him, couldn’t dare stop him and didn’t even want it to end. In the years to come, she would hold this moment closer to her heart like tattoo, for it felt like the wedding night she never had and someday she would scribble it behind that picture where she had built her fantasy and world around.
Daisy shifted comfortably to lay her head on Jide’s chest. The light streaming in through the curtains indicated that the sun was way up in the sky and business was going on as usual in the ever busy state of Lagos. Yet these cuddling couples seemed reluctant to disentangle and go about the day’s affair.
They were probably relishing the moments of the night before or thinking about the whole time they had wasted while pride, arrogance, unforgiveness, vindictiveness and interfering human elements stalled the happiness that should have been theirs before now.
But whatever it was that was in their minds, the sun seemed unaware as it spread its wonderful rays around the room, neither did the clock stop ticking away towards 8am.
Daisy smiled now as she remembered the thrill of the night before, her left hand slowly caressing Jide’s chest. All is well that ends well, she thought. Who would have thought that with the way the marriage issue had kicked off and held through, that she would be brave enough to conquer it all and would one day hold tight to the man of her dreams?
Special thanks it is to her cousin who had shaken her out of her delusions, given her an ‘expert’ view and saved her from the crash course she was headed. And If she had ever doubted Jide’s love for her, all that doubts had evaporated in thin air. He had been such a wonderful lover. The end, indeed, justifies the means, as they say for this was right where she belonged. she concluded smiling.
Daisy had been awake for the past minutes but had decided to sleep tight and snuggle closer than skin to Jide. His light snore was melody to her ears and the rhythmical heaving of his chest against her face was better than any jolly ride that Disneyland could offer. She could stay here forever, basking in his masculine aura and the safety and comfort that had eluded her all her life. This was home! Every chance to get there had been indeed, worth taking.
Now, Daisy slightly raised her head to peer at Jide’s face, but Surprisingly, he too wasn’t asleep
Jide: ‘morning sunshine, hope your night was great?’ Jide said softly.
Daisy felt her heart melt like Jelly then. Sunshine? Nobody had ever said it this wonderful before! Her night? It had been way out of this world! He was as good in sheet as he was in looks! Was she going to get use to this forever? Offcourse she was!
Slowly, her smile diffused over her body as she continued peering into his eyes and probably didn’t remember he’d asked a question.
Jide: ‘are you gonna answer me, or you’re just gonna smile all day’ Jide prompted, stroking her face.
Daisy: ‘my night was the greatest ever’ she softly replied.
Jide: ‘you surprise me every day, you know that’ Jide said his hands still teasing her face.
Daisy: ‘and so do you’ she replied.
Time seemed to stand still as they stared motionless at eachother now.
Daisy: ‘I love you Jide’ Daisy finally said, meaning every word.
Jide: ‘love you too’ Jide replied.
And Daisy’s smile this time was exuding with contentment and pride. She had so long wanted to hear him say these words to her! And now that he finally did say it. It sounded magical.
Jide: ‘you’ve got a wonderful smile, you know’ He said softly.
Daisy flashed more smile in response, it was followed by another magical spell of silence and intense gazing.
Daisy special moment held on for what seemed like ages, until…
Jide: ‘am already late for work Daisy’ Jide cut in softly.
Daisy felt a pang of pain slice through her heart then. There goes her special moment! She mused, pursing her lips.
Daisy: ‘do you have to go to work today?’ she whined.
Jide: ‘am so sorry, but it’s important i call in this morning, got some deals to round off’ he pleaded.
Daisy: ‘can’t it be postponed’ Daisy pleaded.
Jide shook his head and started rising up. Women would always be women, thinking life was more about bed and breakfast. Some other day, then he would have stayed back to make sweet love to his wonderful wife, but today, business really calls. It was the business whose document had brought him home on Friday and it would be sealed today. His dad wouldn’t take it likely if he was absence. And he didn’t want to ruin the gradual bandages that were healing their sore wounds, for he’d finally apologise to his father. And then again, he still needed to intimate his dad with this new development, he couldn’t just skip work on a Monday, a previous act that had gotten him married in the first place. Not that he was regretting the outcome of it. No! He damn well wasn’t. But business still preceded pleasure everywhere. Jide shrugged as he twirled to face the sulky Daisy.
Daisy: ‘so not fair’ Daisy said pouting her lips and crossed her arms like a whining child.
Jide smiled at her childish pose and felt his heart and firm resolution melting again. Finally, he saw himself going back to seat on the bed.
Jide: ‘how do i make it up to you?’ he asked caressing her cheek.
Daisy: ‘stay with me’ Daisy replied.
Jide: ‘hmm’ he simply said and moved closer, his face barely an inch from hers. ‘how about i leave you with a part of me’ he whispered softly.
A smile curved on Daisy’s lips now.
Jide: ‘that’s better’ he said then kissed her slowly. A minute later, he broke the kiss. Then with his lips still closer to hers and his hands encircling her, he asked: ‘then i can go for a while?
Daisy: ‘just a while only?’ Daisy whispered, her previously crossed hands now circled his neck.
Jide: ‘you can bet on that sunshine’ he said softly and covered her lips with his.
Slowly Daisy slid down to accommodate her man, every of her childish whining gone as his kisses traced her mouth and skin. In its place was a woman ready to prove how deeply she loved her husband with her touch, caresses and kisses. At the end, she mused, it would be her leaving memories of herself engraved in his heart, so good that it would make him come running home back into her arms.
‘jeez Daisy, who could ever imagine that oneday I’d mean nothing to you!’ A tall, dark, suited lady, spotting dread-locks complained as she walked through the opened door.
Daisy followed behind, smiling like one who had recently won a million bucks. Truth was that she didn’t care how angry this lady was, or how wrong she had been for totally forgetting that Brenda existed. It was so unlike her. Formerly, she would have gone to fix their issues but now, the joy she had felt for these past days was something she could trade even her juice cravings for, so Brenda’s whining didn’t even come close.
Bren: ‘are you even listening to me?’ Brenda turned, eyeing the widely grinning Daisy. ‘and what’s damn so funny here!’ she shouted.
Daisy: ‘oh Bree! Would you lower your voice and quit whining already? Then come take a seat with me’ Daisy replied calmly as she walked past Brenda to go sit down. Unpreturbed by her friend’s angry demeanour or quaint stare.
Bren: ‘are you sure you’re okay?’ Brenda asked still staring quizzically at Daisy.
Daisy: ‘sure’ Daisy replied, smiling like a love-struck teenager, then tightened her outer robe. There was no rush for anything again, her mornings were half spent on bed with her husband, so why should she be far from okay? Infact, she was feeling great!
Daisy: ‘do have a seat, will you?’ she said.
Brenda shook her head rather perplexed. What was really wrong with her friend? And what’s with the annoying grin she was wearing since?
Bren: ‘like for real Dee, what’s gotten into you?’ she asked moving over to the seat.
Daisy: ‘hmm, you’re on suit today’ Daisy replied, glancing over her friend like she was seeing her for the first time.
Bren: ‘will you snap outta this!’ Brenda exclaimed sitting down, ‘that ain’t what i asked’
Daisy: ‘…and you’re still on dreads? Doesn’t look good with the suit though’ Daisy continued, ignoring Brenda’s angry stare.
Bren: ‘Daisy!’ Brenda screamed.
Daisy broke into a laugh that resounded in the parlour. It was a laughter that came from deep within her heart, not to mock or scare, just a true reflection of what she truly felt.
Bren: ‘can i join in the joke’ Brenda cut in drily. Her friends attitude was damn strange!
Daisy: ‘jeez Bren, am so happy right now’ Daisy said finally, looking sober after the wine of laughter.
Bren: ‘for a moment I thought you’ve lost it’ Brenda said.
Daisy: ‘no girl, am perfectly sane but simply happy’ Daisy replied.
Bren: ‘good! So start spilling’ Brenda said, her curiousity piqued as to the reason her estranged friend was this happy. Whatever grievance she had come to bear would have to chill for a while.
Bren: ‘so?’ she prompted
Daisy: ‘we’ve made up’ Daisy simply said and smiled.
Bren: ‘who’s the we?’
Daisy: ‘jeez Bree! Don’t be like that, don’t you see the glow in my face, don’t i radiate enough! Don’t you feel my smile! Don’t you feel me! Hunh?’ Daisy went euphoric.
Bren: ‘chilax, will you? I see ’em all and that’s why i ask’
Daisy: ‘such a wonderful, loving dude’ Daisy uttered in that euphoric state
Bren: ‘who?’ Peter??
Daisy: Hell no … ‘my husband o’course’
Bren: ‘that tripping dude?’
Daisy: ‘no, not that tripping dude, its My dude,My boo! We ain’t into those sh.it anymore, we’ve let it all slide like jelly…and now, we are so good, it hurts!’ Daisy hugged herself now.
Bren: ‘can you cruise down to planet earth? i ain’t really getting…’
Daisy: ‘oh come on Bree! Catch the gist! I’ve got him all back to myself and i mean all of him! all that arrogance, pay backs, temper, fights, quarrels, gush! all of ’em are gone…whoosh! Just like that, evaporated in thin air’
Bren: ‘and the ex ish?’
Daisy: ‘she’s history, she don’t matter to us anymore, gone like she never even happened’
Daisy: ‘you can say that again’
Daisy: ‘yeah baby! And you’re gonna love the new him, i tell you, he’s so the best thing around’
Bren: ‘yeah right! he’s still a dickhead to me’ Brenda replied drily.
